SSRI’s and Genetics

A response to a question about genetic polymorphisms and SSRI’s. My answer: Excellent question. This question has not been asked in this manner previously. So thank you for asking it 🙂   First an explanation of SSRIs. The selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor prevents some of the reuptake of serotonin at the synapse. As is my usual wont, here is a story. There are no videos, unless u want me to make one 🙂   Neurotransmitters do exactly that, transmit neural impulses across the synapse (the synaptic cleft). So when an impulse comes down requiring serotonin, this neurotransmitter is released from ...

Genetic Reports Deficiencies/Benefits

In reference to the recent postings about the various genetic reports and their deficiencies/benefits I’d like to make the following statement. My statement is not meant to dispute with anyone, insult anyone or anything disparaging. It is simply my opinion from years of doing this type of work. The first thing that is necessary and needed is that anybody who obtains a genetic report is to ask themselves, “what do I expect from this report?”. If you are expecting a direct line from the polymorphisms to treatment protocols or any permutation thereof, this is simply not what is available. As ...

Genetic reports and nutraceutical recommendations

Dear All: I was asked a question today that I would like to share. I get this question frequently. The person asked if I could examine her Strategene genetic report and make nutraceutical recommendations. I am often asked to do this. I wanted to create this post to explain what is involved in making therapeutic recommendations. A full history, review of existing lab tests (if any) as well as consideration of the epigenetics is required. These are the minimal requirements. It is inappropriate to base any therapeutic interventions solely on the snps because you don’t know which are expressing, the ...

Lyme Can’t Be Completely Healed–NOT!

I must take issue with the premise, “it can’t be completely healed and gone (Lyme)”. The reason that this has become the common wisdom is that most treatment fails to include foundation work that re-initiates cellular function which, in turn, allows all the detoxification pathways to function, methylation to function, biopterin pathway to function, mitochondria…well…u get the idea. Hence, fix the cells and you fix the pathways. Fix the pathways and the immune system works, If the immune system works…you can be COMPLETELY healed of Lyme (and anything else, for that matter).
